Will Lifting Weights Make Me Bulky?

teen program 2

If you’re thinking about starting a weight training program, getting too bulky is the last thing you need to worry about.

It would be like worrying if a driver’s ed course would turn a new driver into a professional race car driver.  Not until after many years of careful, disciplined training and nutrition – and even then it still depends on many factors.

Assuming you are following a reasonable nutrition plan, starting weight training a couple days per week will help you build muscle while reducing excess body fat, resulting in a more “toned” look. You will start to feel stronger and likely have more energy.

Other factors that will affect how much muscle you gain when weight training are:

  • nutrition: what kinds of foods you are eating and how much food you eat
  • training plan: how often you are lifting weights and what other types of training you are including
  • genetics: your height, weight, natural metabolism, and response to food and exercise

At CrossFit Reverb, you’ll check in with a coach each quarter to make sure your training plan is calibrated to your goals.  A typical CrossFit training plan includes a well rounded mix of weightlifting, body weight movements, and cardio endurance training that looks great, feels great, and improves your health span.

You’ll also learn how to support your health and fitness goals with an appropriate nutrition plan – and you’ll have support in achieving it in a sustainable way that you can continue the rest of your life.

Don’t let fear about not achieving the perfect physical appearance stop you from coming into the gym!  Just get started and you’ll learn exactly how to achieve your goals along the way.
