Tomorrow we’re rowing and doing push press, which we’ve covered before. On Friday at 5:30pm, we’re playing pickleball at the gym (everyone is invited), so let’s brush up on the rules!
Scoring:
- Play to 11, must win by 2.
- Score a point only when you are serving; otherwise the serve passes to the next server with no point scored.
General Faults (how to lose the point):
- Hit the ball out of bounds or into the net (line counts as “in”)
- Fail to return the ball before second bounce
- Volley while stepping into the kitchen (or on the line) at any point
Serving:
- Must stand behind baseline and in between imaginary extension of sideline and centerline
- Must serve into diagonally opposite court zone (kitchen is out)
- Drop serve: drop the ball using only gravity, let ball bounce and then hit it however you want
- Toss serve: Hit the ball out of the air – must be underhanded (Must use upward arc of paddle, make contact below waist level, and head of paddle must be below the wrist at contact)
Serving Order:
- First serve of each side-out starts from the right/even court; alternate sides each point.
- (Doubles): Each team goes through both players serving before the side-out to the other team – EXCEPT: the first serving team of the game starts with their second server.
Two Bounce Rule:
- On each point, no volleys are allowed until the ball bounces once on each side of the court (removes ability of serving team to serve and volley)
