How To Start Improving Your Nutrition

You have an idea of what you need to do with your nutrition but just haven’t done it yet.

You don’t know exactly where you should start on improving your nutrition – it’s confusing.

You’ve improved your nutrition before on and off but weren’t able to stay consistent.

If one of these resonates with you, you’re not alone!

Healthy eating supports looking good, feeling good, and lowering risk of chronic disease.

It can be made simple with the right guidance, but that doesn’t make it easy. Especially in the modern landscape of highly processed and sugary foods!

At Reverb we recommend taking one small change to your habits at a time, and sticking with it – instead of changing everything at once, and eventually relapsing.

Step 1: The first step is an assessment of one full week of your nutrition.  Use an app like MyFitnessPal, paper and pen, or snap a picture of each item you eat & drink.  This step alone is often very eye-opening!

Step 2: Whole foods, especially protein.  Check out the Reverb Grocery Guide.  Things in green are nutritious whole foods. Pick one meal of the day where you could be eating more whole foods, pick a whole food you like from the list, and add it in every day that week!

Step 2.5: Be patient, stay focused on one change at a time, and keep adding whole foods to your meals, one at a time, by prioritizing them and by planning ahead. (This is the simple but not easy part!)

Step 3: Balancing protein, fats, and carbs. This is where it gets a *little* more tedious. Assess your meals to make sure you’re getting enough protein from whole foods (daily target of up to 1g protein per pound of target body weight if you’re very active).  Again, be patient, increase your protein intake over time, and celebrate all progress!

Completing these steps will often get you 90%+ of the way to where you want to be.

There will be many challenges along the way. Family get-togethers, daily donuts in the office, you got off late from work and don’t have anything prepared, and much more.

Our nutrition coaches have navigated these challenges themselves and helped others overcome them as well.

You can do it too!
