Member Spotlight: Linda!

Linda spotlight

Linda, 45, is a veteran CrossFitter who wanted to get out of her garage and back into a coaching environment last summer to ramp up her results – which brought her to Reverb!

Linda trains at Reverb in the group class 2-3 days per week and over the past 3.5 months she has ADDED 1.8 pounds of muscle mass WHILE DROPPING 6.2 pounds of body fat for a 4.2% body fat reduction!

Let’s hear about it from her!:

What were you doing for fitness before Reverb?

CrossFit in my garage, which isn’t very motivating because you can sandbag quite easily.

What was the problem you were trying to solve that made you want to join Reverb?

An old coach of mine reached out to do the Open. To compete against each other like we always did. And we did it, and I looked up my score compared to Southern California, compared to my age group, compared to my old coach, and we were horrible. That’s when I realized that, “Your fitness has deteriorated.” So that’s when I started looking to come back to CrossFit and that’s when I found Reverb.

How long have you been back in it and what kind of changes have you seen recently?

Less than a year. What I’ve seen is, I originally gained about 10 lbs from when I was last CrossFitting, but it was flabby, I had lost a lot of muscle. At one point I was about 16-18% body fat. [Since the last goal review 3.5 months ago] I’ve dropped 3.2% body fat, which is super exciting because I was able to drop 6.4 lbs but gained 1.8 lbs of muscle mass! I’m happy with my weight, but the scale doesn’t say it all ladies! It’s switching that percentage: increase muscle mass and drop fat. So that’s what I’m most excited about.

How else has it impacted your personal life?

I found CrossFit about 20 years ago. CrossFit is very empowering especially for females. As a female, women aren’t motivated to go lift heavy weights, it was more aerobics and cardio. So when I found CrossFit, it was very empowering to lift weights, do a pull up. I mean I never did any of that, I couldn’t do a pull up to save my life. The mental strength it’s provided me has transitioned over to my personal life and work. No matter how challenging anything seems, CrossFit has helped me think about: baby steps, you’ll be able to get through it.

What would you tell someone who is scared to get started?

Just try it. Everything is scary. Human beings are creatures of habit and you can’t grow from being comfortable. You’d be surprised how much and what you’re capable of. “Aim for the stars and land above mediocre,” is what I say!
