What is Coaching? (and why is it valuable?)

Coach sweatshirt 1

Coach (noun): a person charged with the instruction and guidance of another [Merriam Webster]

Simply put, coaching is when an expert helps a less experienced person achieve a certain goal.

A well qualified coach is someone who has previously achieved the goal themself, or who has already successfully led others to achieve the goal, or ideally both.

Why is coaching valuable?  It saves a lot of time.

You can spend the time and resources becoming an expert in the topic yourself through years of research, trial, and error – or you can have a coach illuminate the most efficient path for you and simply execute on the tasks they set forth.

At Reverb, our area of experience is building a well-rounded fitness (all 10 physical skills: strength, stamina, flexibility, cardio-respiratory endurance, power, speed, coordination, balance, accuracy, and agility) which makes you look, feel, and perform great for the long term.

Our coaches have achieved this goal themselves with the help from the coaches that came before them.  And every day we help the members of our community, from kids to 90+, achieve this goal for themselves.

There are a thousand different ways to achieve a thousand different variations of “fitness” and it’s all on youtube for free.

But if you value your time, you don’t need a thousand options – you need one efficient path from YOUR starting point to YOUR goal and guidance on the step-by-step tasks along the way.

At Reverb, coaching looks like:

  • No Sweat Intro Meeting: how every new member joins Reverb. We learn all about your background and goals before recommending the best path to get you there. (Book It)
  • Goal Reviews: quarterly 1-on-1 progress check, including body composition analysis, to refine your training and nutrition plan as needed. (Book It – included w/ your membership)
  • On-the-floor Coaching:
    • proper technique for functional movements that develop all 10 physical skills to a high level
    • the right difficulty level for where you are today.
    • the mental approach to get more out of a 1-hour session than a week of doing your own thing at a globo gym.
  • Nutrition Coaching: weekly check-ins helping you make one small change at a time to your nutrition habits and routines to support your goals for the long term.
  • Overcoming Challenges: Injuries, vacations, travel, physical limitations, mental limitations, results plateauing.  You name it, we’ve probably done it or seen it and we’ll help you improvise, adapt, and overcome.

Now all you have to do is: do the actual work!  (Easy, right?!)
