This is a weekly – if not daily – occurrence for me:
– realize I’m hungry and survival brain wants something sweet/sugary
– scour the fridge and pantry for sweet treats
– didn’t find any sweat treats anywhere in the kitchen
– eat the readily available lean meats, veggies, fruits
– end up feeling great with stable energy while supporting my target body composition and health markers
If I’m hangry when I find a box of Oreos, you better believe I’m going to eat them. And I wouldn’t expect anyone to have the will power to not eat the Oreos in that situation.
Most people think getting healthier comes down to having more willpower.
But research suggests something different.
The people who consistently eat well, exercise regularly, and stick to healthy habits aren’t necessarily stronger or more disciplined.
They’ve simply made those healthy choices easier to make.
Want to eat less junk food? Don’t have it in the house.
Want to make it to the 6am class? Lay out your gym clothes the night before.
Want to get to sleep earlier? Put your phone on the charger outside the bedroom.
Success isn’t about winning a battle against temptation every day. It’s about creating an environment where the healthy choice is the easy choice.
If you’ve been struggling with consistency, don’t assume you’re lacking motivation or discipline. Instead, ask yourself:
“What can I change in my environment to make success easier?”
Pick one of the three changes above that you know you can improve on, implement it today, and then… stick with it!
Small changes often lead to big results.
