Minimizing Injuries!

Let’s talk about injuries and get you ahead of them with the best information up front to avoid, lessen, manage, and recover from anything that comes up!

Studies show that CrossFit has a comparable or lower injury risk than other common exercise and sport programs, and that the highest injury prevalence is in situations lacking coach supervision.

Not only will you always have a coach supervising every one of your personal or group sessions at Reverb, you’ll have trained and experienced coaches who prioritize your quality of movement first over a weight or a score.

Rest assured, we very often have new members coming in at all fitness levels with all manner of pre-existing joint pains.

After a couple weeks to months of workouts tailed to their level and limitations, we most commonly see a dramatic decrease in joint pains.

This is due to the strength and muscle being built around the joints, which adds stability, as well as the flexibility and range of motion gained from moving properly through natural and functional movement patterns.

What can YOU do to maximize your results and minimize your risk?

  1. Start slow. It’s easy to overestimate our abilities especially when we haven’t been working out in a while. Mechanics and consistency are your jobs right now: showing up and following the technique pointers from your coach. Take your time building confidence in your movement. There’s no wrong answer here, it could be weeks or months.
  2. Talk to your coach! When in doubt, SCALE and MODIFY the workout. We will ALWAYS be able to help you change the workout of the day to work around YOUR abilities and limits.
  3. If an injury or joint pain comes up: Don’t panic. Remember, it can be easy to overestimate our abilities in a new program after not working out for a while. It’s OK if this happens. It doesn’t mean you can’t do this or this program is too intense for you. It may even mean that it’s more important than ever for you to work with a coach to adjust your workouts so you can build the muscle and strength to be resilient against injuries and joint pain. Again, talk to your coach. We’ve helped clients through all manner of injuries, not to mention dealt with them ourselves! The more you communicate, the more we can help!
